Bundestag Printed Paper 17/10575 Preliminary remarks of the questioners:
As of 2009 members of the police forces of a number of EU governments have been meeting as part of the International Specialist Law Enforcement project (ISLE). The aim of the project is to exchange and share expertise on "specialist techniques" – covert entry into premises and vehicles and the infiltration of electronic devices, for the purpose of installing surveillance equipment there. Forensic capabilities for reading data from digital media are also to be improved. The International Specialist Law Enforcement project is, at the instigation of the European Commission, managed by the United Kingdom’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). The joint Steering Group includes representatives of the BKA and the Commissioner-General's Office – Directorate of Special Units (CGSU) in Belgium.
